English silent film industry was a true cinematic furnace in the late 1920s, and many film makers retuned from Hollywood to direct movies in London. E. A. Dupont became world famous with Variety (1925), but later returned to much friendlier England. Piccadilly (1929) is his finest film directed in England, which combines German and British know-how in a fascinating way. The shiniest star is Anna May Wong, a future Oscar winner. Charles Laughton makes a cameo os a drunken customer complaining about dirty plates.
