The second part of a trilogy by Lupu Pick and Carl Mayer starts with words of the tower of Babel and ends in a moonlit sea. In between is a tragic story of a cafe-keeper stuck between his elderly mother and selfish wife, and only sees one permanent way out of it. Two very different sides of society is elegantly presented with two totally different restaurants accross the street: one is a cheap drinking hole, other a luxurious night club. Yet, the realities of life are shown dispassionately, which makes this movie even more impressive.
